Technical Q&AQTW 12 - Installing QuickTime 2.01 (1-May-95)Q I am trying to install QuickTime 2.01 for Windows on a system running Windows 95, build #324 (dated Feb. 1, 1995). All goes well until the SETUP program attempts to install the file PLAYENU.DLL. At this point, the installer indicates an error, stating that the file is being shared by other applications, and that it cannot load it into my C:\WINDOWS directory. Then, the installation fails and returns control to my desktop. There is no file called PLAYENU.DLL anywhere on my system prior to running your installer. I also tried installing QuickTime in a directory other my Windows directory, as I could with previous versions of QuickTime for Windows, but this option does not seem to be available in QuickTime for Windows 2.01. What can I do to get QuickTime installed properly? A We have heard that our SETUP.EXE program does not work well with Windows 95. At the present time, we don't have a Windows 95-specific SETUP.EXE program. (A future installer provided by Apple will work with Windows 95.) However, you can complete the installation by installing the QTW files manually. The listing below shows where each of the files should be installed. The following files must be located in the directory specified by the GetWindowsDir API: PLAYENU.DLL VIEWENU.DLL MCENU.HLP PLAYENU.HLP VIEWENU.HLP README.EXE PLAYER.EXE VIEWER.EXE The following files must be located in the directory specified by the GetWindowsSysDir API: MCIQTENU.DLL QTHNDLR.DLL QTIM.DLL QTIMCMGR.DLL QTOLE.DLL MCIQTW.DRV QTMOVIE.VBX QTPIC.VBX DHIO_DH.QTC NAVG.QTC QCMC.QTC QTCVID.QTC QTJPEG.QTC QTRAW.QTC QTRLE.QTC QTRPZA.QTC QTSMC.QTC QTVHDW.QTC REELMGIC.QTC QTIV32.QTC QTIYVU9.QTC QTRT21.QTC QTOLD.QTC QTNOTIFY.EXE Technical Q&A Previous Question | Contents | Next Question |
